Long Absence Is Over PDF Print E-mail

Okay folks, I'm sorry for the long absence, I have been away from this site for far too fucking long. I put a lot of time and effort to get this mother up and running, and then life got in the way. To many things going on in this mans life, and I just got busy with other bullshit and before I knew it one day turned into one week, and then one month, then two...man, time just keeps marching on.

Well, I will not go into a long explanation as to what has been happening to keep me from posting, but as things continue to settle and some semblance of order seems to follow, maybe now I can reacquaint myself with the site.

Post to follow as the day progresses. Ciao for now.

Toshiba demos TG01 mobile prototype PDF Print E-mail

I found this article over at techtree.com as well. Toshiba demoed the new phone at the Windows Mobile 6.1 Launch

in London.

It seems that Toshiba has a new phone based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipset capable of running up to 1GHz. It is based on ARM architecture which has a processor, graphics and 3G network featured on the chipset.

Obviously sporting Windows Mobile 6.1, the Toshiba TG01 is slimmer than iPhone 3G (12.3mm) and the Touch HD (12mm) but uses resistive touch-screen which might bring bundles of criticism. We guess they haven't checked recent Blackberry Storm touchscreen feedback from users. The other features include 3.2 megapixel camera, HSDPA, WiFi and Bluetooth. It would be great if Toshiba manages to include TV-out port in TG01.

With the Snapdragon chipset capable of running 1GHz totally pwns (slashes) Asus' P565 mobile phone that has 800MHz processor. Also with the resistive 4.1-inch touchscreen, TG01 does have a capability of being a mobile-gaming platform, if game developers notice it.

Check out the demo above.

New Google Latitude PDF Print E-mail

I found this article over at techtree.com about Google's new Latitude app for Symbian 60 based phones, iPhone-iPod Touch, colored Blackberry phones and Android based phones.

Helio's Buddy Beacon, Sprint's Family Locator, and Boost's Loopt services all do the same thing, not only including location aware services for your phone, but for other friends that download and install the same application. This allows users to see where their friends and family are at, or where their cheating spouse happens to be. :/

Location-aware services are certainly going main stream with a plethora of mobile computers, cell phones and other handhelds bearing GPS-capabilities. To access Google Maps' new Latitude feature, the user will have to invite friends, and on acceptance of the invitation, those who are in close neighborhood will be visible. Users can also upload and send photos on the fly. Note that all these functions are data network intensive and might lag on slower connections.

Google has taken care of what is the prime concern for any user - privacy. Location once shared can be masked by hiding from individual contacts or all contacts at once. Google also offers an option to turn off the Latitude option completely whenever the user wants.

I have already downloaded and installed the app and will be checking it out in the weeks to come. Now all I need to do is get some friends to download and install it as well.

Google Earth 5 Beta Released PDF Print E-mail

I caught this story yesterday afternoon before leaving work for the day and I decided to download and install the update to take a look at the new Google Earth 5

I have been using Google Earth more and more these days, and I was impressed right away by the higher detail in the new version. Right away the definition on launch is a huge improvement from the previous version.

All of my saved locations were brought across without any problem at all, and the new ocean features are pretty interesting.

"You can not only zoom into whatever part of our planet's surface you wish to examine in closer detail, you can now dive into the world's ocean that covers almost three-quarters of the planet and discover new wonders that had not been accessible in previous versions."

Over the next week or so I will take the time to really put the new version through its paces and see what the new version can do.

Apple Threatens Patent Lawsuits...Again PDF Print E-mail

I started to post this yesterday morning shortly after arriving at work, but I got busy with other things, and I was never able to return and complete the post to the site.

I found this article yesterday which talks about Apples concern over the new Palm Pre phone and how Apple is talking about filing suit against Palm for Patent Infringement, which wouldn't be the first time Apple has made this kind of threat.

It's not as if Apple has never been accused of violating a patent or two with the iPhone.

Apparently, what has their panties in such a bind, is the fact that people are saying that not only does the Palm Pre do a lot of things the iPhone does, they are also saying that it does those things better than the iPhone.

Here's what apples Tim Cook had to say on the subject:

We like competition--as long as our competitors don't rip off our IP. And we're going to go after anyone who does. I'm not talking about any particular company, but we are ready to suit up and go against anyone. We will not stand for having our IP ripped off, and we will use every weapon at our disposal...

Meanwhile, this morning I found this article over at MobileBurn in which they announce that Apple has indeed been awarded a patent for it's multi-touch technology. OMFG, how fucking convenient.

Whatever. To think that the iPhone is the be all and end all of cell phone technology is ridiculous, and to think that Apple is the only company that has to right to innovation is even more ridiculous.
